NORTON SINGERS DASH NOMINATIONS
GUYS & DOLLS
Last Wednesday night, the Eastern Massachusetts Association of Community Theaters (EMACT) announced the nominees for its annual ???Distinguished Achievements and Special Honors??? (DASH) awards. EMACT is a prestigious organization that???s been around for 30 years, and whose membership extends from Boston to Worcester. DASH is sort of like the Tony awards for the Eastern Massachusetts area.
JECKYLL & HYDE
During the broadcast announcement, Norton Singers was stunned to learn that the group received nine total nominations???including best Musical Production???for its recent production of Jekyll & Hyde, which took place at Wheaton College in June.
In addition to Best Musical, the group received nominations in the following categories:
Best Direction of a Musical: Ted Mitchell (Attleboro resident)
Best Musical Direction: Anthony-Alexander Torelli (Johnston, RI)??
Best Lead Actress: Rachel Fisher-Parkman (Foxboro) and PattiLou Normand (Cranston, RI)
Best Lead Actor: Kevin Mischley (Wrentham). This is Kevin???s second nomination. In 2008 he was selected as Best Lead Actor for the
Norton Singers production of Anything Goes.)
Best Stage Management of a Musical: Sharon Silberman (Norton)
Best Lighting Design: Miranda Risley and Alex Landers (Norton: Wheaton College students)
Best Sound Design: Mark Deluzio (Mansfield)
The number of nominations Norton Singers received for Jekyll & Hyde is an all-time high for the group. In fact, the previous record was for three nominations for The Drowsy Chaperone in 2012! ???We are thrilled to be recognized by EMACT for our work on Jekyll & Hyde,??? said Anna McReynolds, president of Norton Singers. ???This means that this Norton Singers??? production was ranked in the top six this year against over 100 other community theater productions. The show involved over 50 local performers and backstage crew members and was a labor of love for everyone involved.?????
