BAY VIEW ACADEMY CELEBRATES NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP SEMI-FINALISTS AND COMMENDED STUDENTS

East Providence, RI ??? Bay View Academy seniors, Cassandra Gendron (Cranston) and Jessica McDonald (Tiverton) have been named National Merit Semifinalists for 2017.

Cassandra and Jessica placed among the top 1 percent of all students in the country taking the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT)/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test given annually to high school juniors.

As 2 of 16,000 semifinalists nationwide, they are both eligible to advance to the finalist competition to vie for 7,500 scholarships worth about $33 million that will be offered next spring.

In addition, seniors Sophia Brooks-Randall (Providence), Krystyna Kula (Greenville), and Amelia Larson (Cumberland) have been named Commended Students in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Commended students placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2017 competition by taking the 2015 PSAT/NMSQT.
