DEM ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR GRANTS TO SUPPORT COMMUNITY TREE PROGRAMS

Informational meetings to be held in Providence on November 29th and Exeter on December 5th

 

PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM), in partnership with the United States Forest Service and the Rhode Island Tree Council, today announced $15,000 is available in matching grants to support local tree programs. A Request for Proposals is now open – with a deadline of January 31, 2019. Over the past 25 years,

 

DEM has awarded more than $5 million in grants under the America the Beautiful Tree Rhode Island program.

 

The grant program, which covers 40 percent of a project’s cost, supports urban forestry efforts including community forestry planning, public tree plantings, and related education and outreach. Grant requests between $2,000 and $4,000 will be considered. Informational workshops will be held on Thursday, November 29, at 2 p.m. at DEM headquarters, 235 Promenade Street, Room 300, Providence, and Wednesday, December 5, at 10:30 a.m. at the Exeter Public Library Program Room to review program details and the grant submission process.

Government and non-profit agencies, along with recognized community groups, are eligible to apply. Selection of grants will be determined on a competitive basis.
