Event coordinator, Rachel Killion, says that “Inside Uptown is a perfect way for AHPS to live up to its mission to promote the education of all citizens of the City of Attleboro about the historic treasures located within the City and to raise funds to preserve some of the historic treasures for future generations.”

This event is designed to give people of all ages a chance to learn and appreciate anew the buildings they may frequent or drive by without really noticing, and to get them interested and engaged enough in the rich history of the Attleboro area that they will carry on the work of the Historical Society well into the future.

The AHPS is a 501c (3) non-profit formed in May of 1999 by a group of 19 Attleboro citizens who were concerned about the future of the East Attleborough Academy (The Academy) on Sanford Street.  Saving the 1842 building from demolition was the galvanizing event that resulted in the formation of the group; many of whom are still active in the society serving as board members, volunteers and participants in the educational programs AHPS offers monthly from September through May. Through generous donations and countless hours of volunteer labor, The Academy is close to being ready for occupancy as AHPS’s headquarters.

Inside Uptown is a family-friendly event and a fun way to explore the city’s history.

The tour event guide, including one scavenger hunt, is $10 and extra scavenger hunts will be available for $1 each.

The guides and scavenger hunts will be available for sale on June 1st from 9:30 am – 2:00 pm at the AHPS booth in Balfour Park (behind the library) and at the Attleboro Area Industrial Museum at 42 Union Street.

Completed scavenger hunts may be turned in to the same locations by 2:00 pm on June 1st to be entered into a raffle drawing for Attleboro area prizes ranging in value between $20 – $120.

Tax-deductible donations to AHPS are always acknowledged and gratefully accepted at 28 Sanford St, Attleboro, MA 02703.
