REVISIONS TO FRESHWATER WETLAND RULES

DEM, CRMC SEEK INPUT ON DRAFT REVISIONS TO FRESHWATER WETLAND RULES

PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) and the RI Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC) will hold a public workshop this month to discuss changes being considered to state freshwater wetland rules. DEM and CRMC have jointly developed preliminary draft rules aimed at strengthening wetlands protection and streamlining the permitting processes for development and other activities conducted in proximity to freshwater wetlands.

The workshop provides an opportunity for public feedback in advance of the formal rule-making process.

 

DEM will accept written comments on the preliminary draft DEM rules through Wednesday, September 25, 2019.  Comments  should be submitted by email to DEM.WaterResources@dem.ri.gov or mailed to the attention of Donna Cullinan in DEM’s Office of Water Resources, 235 Promenade Street, Providence, RI 02908.

 

Copies of the draft DEM rules will be available at the workshop.  A summary of the major rule changes and a copy of the draft revised DEM rules are available on DEM’s website. The Preliminary Draft CRMC Freshwater Wetland Rules are available on its website:  www.crmc.ri.gov.
