MIXED MAGIC THEATRE

MMT UPDATE – KEEPING IT IN “ACTION” !!

May 27, 2020

Dear Friend,

Because you are a valued friend and supporter of Mixed Magic Theatre, I am writing this note to update you on what we are doing to stay active during the Covid-19 crisis.

In what was to be a celebration of our 20 th  , Mixed Magic had planned a year-long schedule of indoor and outdoor plays, concerts and special events. We are of course disappointed that the current situation has caused us to rethink what we can do and how best we can do it.

Many arts organizations, including Mixed Magic, are using technology, with varying degrees of success, to keep audiences engaged .

However, in talking with the staff and artists at Mixed Magic,   it was agreed   that the company must never lose sight of its primary mission to present living art .  We decided that everything we do would be to remind audiences to look forward to the time when we can share the live experience again. Nothing is better than being there.

It is also very important to find creative ways to share health and well-being information and encourage the spirit of the communities we serve.

This is especially true for communities of color.

Mixed Magic Theatre is continuing a series of online programs. To better produce quality content, we have brought together a team of designers and technicians to temporarily create an environment in our mainstage theatre as a safe space to capture the of live performance on video.

We will not do full plays or concerts.

Instead we look to develop a space where 3 to 4 performers, supported by good lighting, sound and some production elements, as well as a small audience that we are calling ” The Masked Chorus “, can be video taped for broadcast. Most scenes , songs or poetry performances will be 5 to 12 minutes long.

We hope to produce the first event, a song with poetry, with the renowned Mixed Magic Exult Choir beginning JUNE 17th  . We are also planning a 6-event concert series on our outdoor stage during August and September. You will be able to find updates on progress and scheduled events on our website
