PR WORKS: MEDIA COVERAGE

Give Them More Than Your Website

You set up a call/meeting with a potential prospect or new hire. It’s someone you’re very excited about. You’ve done your homework on them. You can be assured they are doing their homework on you.

Where do you think they looked to conduct that research?

Your website?

Definitely.

Your social media pages?

Count on it.

What else?

You can bet it will involve Google or some other search engine. And that could be the undoing for some businesses.

The search should turn up your Google My Business listing. Hopefully, you have some 5-star reviews. Yet you really can’t be sure how much stock somebody will put into those.

One thing the search could turn up is media coverage. Preferably from more than one source and more than one news story.

Media coverage tells prospects and potential new hires many things about a company, depending on the nature of the news story. For this story, we’ll say the coverage is based on news releases your company regularly issues.

First, the prospect will see a certain level of activity from your company. Even if it’s a simple new hire release or new product or service release, the prospect will see that your company is both active and the local media finds that worthy of publication.

The prospect will probably also take comfort in knowing that if they work with your company, they will be part of that positive activity.

Many of the press releases we issue on behalf of clients cover such things as charitable endeavors and speaking engagements. Again, prospects will probably appreciate working with a firm that’s active in the community and is visible and respected in its industry.

Regular press releases that garner coverage accomplish that objective and then some.

In today’s current job market, employers are struggling to find help. Anything you can do to differentiate your company as a desirable place to work can be the difference maker. PR can be that secret weapon.

A regular diet of news releases from your company can create and enhance your company’s online reputation with prospective employees and clients. It’s an investment that can pay great dividends in the current market.
