On July 9th, Bristol County District Attorney Sam Sutter came to Attleboro to endorse Bill Bowles in his bid to succeed John Lepper as State Representative in the 2nd Bristol district, which includes most of Attleboro, and all of South Attleboro. The ceremony took place in front of City Hall with about fifteen supporters holding campaign signs and buttons for Bowles. Sutter said from the first time he met Bowles two years ago, that he could see Bill Bowles was intelligent, extremely committed to his work as a City Councilor, and a person of high integrity. He also added that he and Bowles share the same basic philosophy to government, and more importantly, to keeping our streets safe.
Sutter said that much needs to be done in the state legislature to strengthen our laws regarding violent crime. He said that the penalties for kicking an individual are the same as using a gun to assault the person, and “I am absolutely convinced that Bill Bowles will work with me and other DA’s to enact tougher laws that will keep violent criminals in jail for longer periods of time”. He also said that Bowles understands the DA’s office needs additional resources to fight the drugs and violent crime which are becoming much more prevalent in these times. He said Bowles is committed to creating safer streets. Sutter also said that Bowles has the broadest knowledge of finances in the race, which is important.
Bowles said he was humbled by the fact that the DA would take time out of his busy schedule to come to Attleboro and endorse his candidacy. Bowles said from the first time he met Sutter two years ago, he could see that Sam Sutter was exactly what was needed. Bowles said he liked Sutter’s approach to fighting crime, and his commitment to work with the police to solve crimes. Bowles said “I knew something was very different in this race when virtually all police departments across Bristol County were endorsing Sutter”. Bowles then joked saying the unique thing about Sam Sutter is that he actually is doing the things he promised he would do in the campaign, which is sometimes very rare.
The event was attended by several local activists, as well as other activists across Bristol County.
