Star Players Announces Cast for 22nd Season Production

The Star Players of Bristol County are pleased to announce their upcoming production of “My Fair Lady” co-directed by Joel O. Thayer and Karl Pelletier. Performances will run August 8, 9, 14, 15, 16 at 7:30pm and August 10, 17 at 2:00pm. All performances will be held at the Gerald A. Croteau Theater, 500 Norton Avenue in Taunton, MA.

“My Fair Lady” first premiered on Broadway in 1956 starring Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews. At 2,717 performances, it was one of Broadways most beloved productions featuring such memorable Lerner and Loewe hit songs as; “I Could Have Danced All Night”, “On The Street Where You Live”, “The Rain in Spain”, and “Get Me To The Church On Time”. The 1964 film starring Audrey Hepburn won the Oscar for best picture and became an instant classic.

“My Fair Lady” follows the character of Eliza Doolittle a flower girl in 1912 London who falls under the wing of Henry Higgins a domineering phonetics professor. Higgins makes a bet that by correcting Eliza’s cockney speech patterns, he can pass her off as a duchess in a matter of months. Of course love ensues as they struggle with the daunting task of turning Eliza into a proper lady.

North Attleboro resident Gary Poholek will be playing the role of Henry Higgins. Poholek was previously seen as Harold Hill in last summer’s Star Players production of “The Music Man”. His resume includes involvement with many local groups including The Actors Collaborative, Norton Singers, Company Theatre, Attleboro Community Theatre and he is a graduate of the Boston Conservatory of Music.

Star Players newcomer, Lorna Jane Norris of Pembroke will be playing the role of Eliza Doolittle. Born and raised in England, Lorna has a Masters in English from Liverpool University (UK) and a degree from the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA. Competing regularly Lorna has won many national singing awards. She is currently the chair of the voice department at the South Shore Conservatory in Duxbury, MA. Director Joel Thayer states, “the minute she [Lorna] walked into the room, it was magic. I knew we had found our Eliza.”
