Sen. James Timilty (D Bristol-Norfolk) is concerned about the impact on the proposed $1B in state budget cuts

Walpole, MA - Sen. James Timilty (D Bristol-Norfolk) is concerned about the impact on the proposed $1B in state budget cuts, especially the reductions in elderly programs.

“In difficult fiscal times we all share in the reality that certain budget cuts are necessary,” Timilty said, ” but I am very disappointed that elder services and home care assistance was cut so deeply. We should never try and balance a budget shortfall on the backs of our senior citizens.”

Sen. Timilty will be a speaker at the larger Senior Expo ever held in the metro west area in Medfield, Nov. 8th.

The senator has a record of helping veterans and older residents in economic distress by assisting Massachusetts veterans with home heating costs and support for the H.E.A.T. bill that includes tax breaks for home heating costs, energy efficient appliances and financial assistance for seniors and the disabled.

“The fall air has arrived already and winter will soon be upon us,” Timilty said. “Heating our homes will become very costly with fuel prices maintaining their current levels and we have too many citizens out there trying to keep their bills within reason by not turning up the thermostat. I hope to continue my work for our seniors so they can find cost effective ways to stay warm while keeping safe and avoiding dangerous space heaters and wood stoves.”

At the Medfield Senior Expo Timilty will address how the next few years will impact state services and how residents can deal with rising heating costs. He plans to focus also on the cost of prescriptions and health care and supporting councils on aging.

Sen. Timilty is serving his second term as state senator representing the Bristol and Norfolk districts. He is married with two daughters and is a resident of Walpole.

The MetroWest Senior Expo is being sponsored by the Medfield Council on Aging and Your Home For Lifesm. Your Home For Lifesm is a Reverse Mortgage Company based in Westwood, Ma . “My business is with people 62 and older and I’d like to help as many as possible by getting them the right information in order for them to remain in their homes for as long as possible.” John Brodrick, President of Your Home For Lifesm said. The Expo will be held from 9:00am to 1:00pm Nov. 8th at The CENTER at Medfield, located at 1 Ice House Road.
