Rep. Joseph Trillo Calls for Emergency Executive Session to Address State Budget Deficit

November 21st, 2008 · No Comments

State House Warwick - In response to the rapidly worsening global, national and local economies, Representative Joseph A. Trillo (R-Dist. 24 Warwick) is calling on House Speaker William J. Murphy (D-Dist. 26 West Warwick) to immediately schedule an executive legislative session.

Representative Trillo’s intent is to provide a forum for all House members to join together for the sole purpose of identifying possible solutions to this potential economic disaster.

“We are facing an extraordinary financial crisis that calls for an urgent response, and to passively sit back and wait for the finance committee to schedule hearings in January and February would be negligent, and a disservice to all Rhode Islanders,” said Rep. Trillo.  “That is why I implore the House Leadership to schedule an executive session, which would be closed to the public, lobbyists, and the press.  This is a unique situation that calls for innovative solutions, and the presence of any outside influence would have the potential to limit the free exchange of innovative and potentially unpopular ideas.”

Rep. Trillo is also calling on all members of the House of Representatives, including those who will not be returning in January, to come prepared with ideas that the finance committee could then consider and employ in the 2009 legislative session.
