Newly formed BSA Venturing Crew 24/7 Scheduled To Hold Recruiting Open House

January 30th, 2009 · No Comments

Michael Struss of the Emergency Medical & Rescue Institute of North Attleboro and Kelcie Kennedy-Smith pictured above are holding a recruiting open house for a newly formed BSA Venturing Crew which will be specializing in Emergency Medicine, First Aid, and First Response Training.

Newly formed BSA Venturing Crew 24/7 is getting under way in North Attleboro and is looking to recruit male and female youth in the Greater Attleboro area that are between 14 and 20 years old and have aspirations of learning skills relating to public emergency needs, Emergency Medical Technician training and community outreach activities. We will be meeting twice monthly and holding training events throughout the year. The primary purpose of Crew 24/7 is to induce our youth members to train for public emergency needs as they relate to fire service, emergency medicine [EMT] and first aid. Robert Smith who is the committee chair of the new crew has partnered up with Michael Struss of the Emergency Medical & Rescue Institute which is an EMT training school based in North Attleboro. Smith and Struss along with a well rounded group of adult volunteers, who all bring different skills and experience to the crew. The crew program will strive to educate the youth about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. The crew members once trained will be encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.

We are looking for youth who have an interest in learning skills that relate to emergency Medicine, search and rescue methods, and community outreach activities. The other emphasis of the crew is going to be on high adventure outdoor skills to provide team-building opportunities, new meaningful experiences, practical leadership applications, and fun!

Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) through 20 years of age. Venturing’s purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults.

Venturing is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth, adult leaders, and organizations in their communities. Local community organizations establish a Venturing crew by matching their people and program resources to the interests of young people in the community. The result is a program of exciting and meaningful activities that helps youth pursue their special interests, grow, develop leadership skills, and become good citizens.

The new startup Venturing crew 247 is a wonderful opportunity for young adults to step out and experience the world, to help explore who they are and who they want to become.   Anyone who wishes to focus on the topics of first aid, a career as a firefighter, EMT or Paramedic, or simply wants to become more involved with the community should seriously consider membership in the new crew. Please come to our open house on February 6th 7:00 at the Emergency Medical & Rescue Institute located at 481 Old Post Rd, North Attleboro.
