18-male_large_ensemble0001-118-female_qualifiers0001-1ATTLEBORO – Eighteen students at Grace Baptist Christian Academy of Attleboro journeyed to South Carolina recently to participate in national fine arts competitions sponsored by the American Association of Christian Schools.

According to Pastor Jeffrey Bailey, GBCA’s principal, 18 students from the school made the long trek to the campus of Bob Jones University in Greenville for the annual AACS events, which featured students in elementary-school, middle-school and high-school levels. While no GBCA students placed in the top 10 nationally in any event, several produced exemplary efforts.

“We performed much better in certain events than we thought we would,” Pastor Bailey said. “Overall, our students distinguished themselves against very tough competition and represented our school well.

Representing GBCA at the national competitions were Holly Johnson, Hannah Farrelly, Sarah Merrett, Cheryl Barrett, Mild Chong, Brendan Argueta, Josh Hulme, Adam Bailey, Matt Dillon, Zachary Yoakum, Steven Medeiros, Eldon Barrett, Isaac Bryden, Sean Plunkett, Alex Reichert, Isaiah Childs, Kyle Hulme and Matt Yoakum.

According to the AACS, more than 1,900 students from schools in 33 different states participated in the national competitions. Pastor Bailey and his wife, Lorraine (a GBCA teacher) transported the GBCA students to South Carolina and chaperoned them during their three-day stay.

“As usual, it was a rich educational experience for our students,” Pastor Bailey said. “We are grateful every year for the opportunity to compete in the AACS nationals.
