31st ANNUAL RESIDENTS’ AND FELLOWS’ GRADUATION HELD AT MEMORIAL

 PAWTUCKET – Graduation day exercises were held on Friday, June 19, 2009, for residents and fellows completing their training at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island. Francis R. Dietz, President and CEO, performed the dual role of congratulating the graduates and greeting the new residents and fellows coming to the hospital in their wake.

In the Internal Medicine Division, the following physicians graduated and moved on in their careers: Saba Asad, M.D. will move on to be a Hospitalist at Miriam Hospital, Providence, RI; Jaspreet Dhillon, M.D. will be working towards a Hematology/Oncology Fellowship at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo, New York; Ahmad Ismail, M.D. will finish his residency at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island in July and then will stay on as faculty at Memorial Hospital; Jagan Kothapally, M.D. will move on to a Hospitalist position at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, RI and then work towards a Nephrology Fellowship at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, Providence, RI; Ashish Misri, M.D. will move on to a Hospitalist position at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, RI; Priya Mital, M.D. will move on to a private practice in Rhode Island; Saed Nemr, M.D. will move on to a Hospitalist position at Miriam Hospital, Providence, RI; Anna Ocasiones Troncales, M.D. will work towards a Geriatrics Fellowship at Brown Medical School, Providence, RI; Tarek Rashid, M.D. will move on to a Hospitalist position at Miriam Hospital, Providence, RI; Ayesha Sheikh, M.D. will move on to a Hospitalist position at Milford Regional Hospital, Milford, MA; and Chief Resident, Rami Eltibi, M.D. will move on to a Hospitalist position at Miriam Hospital, Providence, RI,  and then work towards a Cardiology Fellowship at Saint Elizabeth’s, Worcester, MA.

Graduates received their plaques from Residency Program Director Eleanor Summerhill, M.D., Associate Program Director Joseph Rabatin, M.D., and Associate Program Director Joseph Diaz, M.D. 

The graduates made way for a new class of Internal Medicine residents, who began a three-year program that includes education and patient interaction under the supervision of physician faculty. They are: Easa Al-Ghandour, M.D.; Mazen Al-Qadi, M.D.; Abdullah Alquadan, M.D.; Waseem Barham, M.D.; Abdullah Chahin, M.D.; Ahmad Daraghmeh, M.D.; Salaheldin Elhamamsy, M.D.; Natacha Esber, M.D.; Maria Valeria Fabre, M.D.; Prerna Ganjoo, M.D.; Aruna Gavini, M.D.; Radu Hagau, M.D.; and Asha Shrestha, M.D. Umar Shakur, D.O. will be the Chief Resident.

In the Family Medicine Department, Residency Program Director Gowri Anandarajah, M.D., Associate Program Director, Melissa Nothnagle, M.D., and Jeffrey Borkan, M.D., Chairman, Graduate Medical Education, and Physician-in-Chief, Department of Family Medicine, announced the graduates and welcomed new residents.

Family Medicine graduates included: Alexander Amby, M.D., who will work in Guam with the National Health Service; Nirali Bora, M.D., will be working towards a Masters in Public Health at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown Universtiy and working at Thundermist Health Center, West Warwick, RI; Matthew Burke, M.D., will be working towards a Fellowship in Health Policy at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C.; April Fredian, M.D. will practice in San Francisco, California; Brett Hurteau, D.O., will practice at South Coast Primary Care, North Dartmouth, MA; Bernd Laudenberg, M.D. will be returning to Germany to practice primary care; Jeffrey Manning, M.D. will be working towards a Fellowship in Sports Medicine at the University of Massachusetts, Worcester, MA; David Mathias, M.D. will be working towards a Fellowship in  Complimentary and Alternative Medicine with the Department of Family Medicine at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island and practice at the Notre Dame Ambulatory Center, Central Falls, RI; John McGonigle, M.D. will practice at Ocean State Holistic Medicine, Gano Street, Providence; Sarah Morchen, M.D. will be working towards a Fellowship in Faculty Development at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and practice at Family Health Services of Cranston Community Action Program, in Cranston, RI; Jason Salter, D.O. will practice at Day Kimball Hospital, Putnam CT; and Jordan White, M.D. will be working towards a Fellowship in Preventative Medicine and a Masters in Public Health at the University of Massachusetts, Worcester, MA.

New Family Medicine residents, who will see patients in the Family Care Center and in the main hospital under the supervision of staff physicians, are: Derek Andelloux, M.D.; Elise Bender, M.D.; Jennifer Buckley, M.D.; Stephanie Chow, M.D.; David Dildine, M.D.; Jessica Early, M.D.; Matthew Hall, D.O.; Manisha Kumar, M.D.; Sheldon Malcolm, D.O.; Christine Nevins-Herbert, M.D.; Jodi Roque, M.D.; Alicia Sanchez, M.D.; and Brandi Swanier, M.D. Margaret Lekander, M.D. and Srilakshmi Subramanian, M.D. will serve as Chief Residents in the coming year.
