| To the editor;Phil Grover’s letter in Sunday’s Sun (Wake Up South Attleboro, It’s almost time to vote, October 4th) was both demeaning and disrespectful not only to Ward 1 Council candidate Joe Lazzerini, but to all young people in general.
To suggest that a ‘young man’ is incapable of making the ‘tough decisions’ that affect Attleboro’s future is downright laughable. I don’t represent the Lazzerini campaign in any way, but do have a feeling that Grover is somehow affiliated with his candidates’ committee. Does he believe that his choice is ‘much closer’ because she’s not a senior in high school? How insulting!!! Dismissing young candidates as not ready yet is the best way to drive them away from the political process for good. As I recall, our own Mayor was also a ‘young person’ when elected to office; as a matter of fact, I believe that he was the youngest Mayor that Attleboro has ever elected. In case you didn’t notice, our last few city elections didn’t exactly set world records for voter turnout. We had 10% show up for the Ward 5 primary, which was pathetic. We can’t afford to alienate ANY portion of registered or potential voters, especially with comments like “I am looking forward to seeing you in 10 years.” Is the status-quo threatened so by new people with new ideas? It sure appears that way. Young people are our future, and the leaders of tomorrow. Encourage them to get involved; don’t dismiss them with negative attacks. Besides, Lazzerini is also a member of the U.S. armed forces. What stronger commitment can be shown by any candidate for political office? Perhaps Grover was forced to sit at the kids table for one too many holiday meals. Mark C. Ambrose Attleboro, MA 02703 |

I think Joe is a good candidate for the seat. Joe listens and has already showed his capabilities by working on behalf of the residents of Ward 1 against the cell tower. Because of him we were able to file for an appeal.
