A geo-’trashe’ clean-up was held at Mass Audubon’s Attleboro Springs Sanctuary by Troop 25 Boy Scouts on Sunday, October 4th. The scouts used their orienteering skills and earned community service credits as they hunted for hidden ‘treasure’ in the woods; the ‘treasure’ being debris, junk and assorted trash piles that have accumulated in the woods over the years. After an afternoon of hunting and heavy hauling, a pick-up truckload of ‘trashe’ was removed from the Sanctuary, but much remains. “Troop 25 did a wonderful job,” said Sanctuary Director, Tara Henrichon. “I hope they can continue their efforts by leading the team later this Fall.” Mass Audubon is organizing a volunteer clean up day for Saturday, November 14th. Several teams will be needed to remove trash in preparation for trail work and in advance of the official Spring 2010 opening of the Sanctuary.
