Bristol, RI – December 11, 2009 – The Justice System Training and Research Institute at Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I., in partnership with the New England Association of Chiefs of Police, recently recognized Sergeant James MacDonald of the Attleboro Police Department for successful completion of the “Command Training Series: First Line Supervisor Course,” a two-week comprehensive training program for police supervisory personnel.
Coursework addressed contemporary concepts of management and leadership relevant to the responsibilities of first line supervisors in a modern criminal justice agency. The program, presented by experienced academics and law enforcement practitioners between November 30 and December 11, 2009, discussed topics including operational leadership and management principles, problem-solving, organizational and interpersonal communication, labor relations, disciplinary issues and ethical decision making.
Graduates of the session represented police departments from throughout New England.
Attleboro Chief of Police Richard Pierce attended the graduation ceremony and participated in a roundtable discussion on contemporary issues affecting first-line supervisors along with other police chiefs from the New England region. “This program prepares law enforcement supervisors to oversee the delivery of police services in a dynamic environment. Sergeant MacDonald’s successful completion of this demanding program supports the professional standards of the Attleboro Police Department,” Chief Pierce said.
