Hockomock Area YMCA’s Integration Initiative[FOXBORO, MA] – The Hockomock Area YMCA’s Integration Initiative will host its second annual “Fun-athlon” for children with special needs this Sunday, December 27th at 9:00 am at the Invensys Foxboro Branch YMCA. Fun-athlon athletes have been training since September and the event will consist of three legs featuring swimming, biking, and walking/running.
The YMCA’s Integration Initiative was designed to offer an integrated setting for children with special needs to participate and learn with there typically developing peers. Over 400 local families have participated in the Initiative and experienced real, positive outcomes including improvements in self-esteem, independence, socialization skills, and physical activity. The program’s mission is to provide an enjoyable and comfortable environment for individuals with special needs and to aid in helping them to be and feel more successful and competent. The program teaches individuals with and without special needs to respect one another for whom he or she is, including their abilities and disabilities.
The Hockomock Area YMCA encourages members of our community to embrace the holiday spirit and come cheer on our participants, who have been hard at work for months training for this big event!
