Kickball Tournament at Gillette Stadium Teaches Kids to Give Back
Kids Helping Kids is a program that teaches kids the importance of philanthropy, giving back, and raising funds for kids in need. This program will hold it’s annual Kickball Tournament at the Dana Farber Field House at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro – the indoor practice field of the New England Patriots. It will take place on Sunday, March 21 from 9:00am – 4:00pm to benefit the Hockomock Area YMCA’s Reach Out for Youth and Families Campaign. Kids ages 3 – 18 are welcome. Registration forms are available at the North Attleboro Y through Friday, March 12th. Participants will be notified via email one week before the tournament with their start time. Each team will play 2 games, totalling 1-hour of play.
Kids can register as an individual, a team (6-10 players), or a class. Any area group can build a team to participate if they wish. Every team must have a team parent – a responsible adult who will register the team at the North Attleboro YMCA by March 12 and manage the team the day of the event (i.e. batting order, field positions, etc). The team parent will be responsible for collecting and submitting all team members’ individual registration forms.
Kids Helping Kids was formed in 2005 by two Mansfield families — the Arnold’s and the Bosco’s – to give children the opportunity to help other kids in their community. To participate, each kid makes a minimum $10 donation – which is earned on their own – to support the YMCA’s Reach Out for Youth and Families Campaign. The Hockomock Area YMCA is a non-profit organization that provides confidential financial aid to over 15,000 children, adults, and families in-need. In 2009, $1.1 million was provided. The YMCA strives to make its programs and services available to all in the community – regardless of one’s ability to pay. The need is great and growing. 100% of every dollar raised goes to area families.
“We look forward to this event every year,” says Darrell Leighton, Executive Director at the North Attleboro YMCA. “Kids from our Y community and surrounding areas learn the importance of giving back to others, and enjoy a one-of-a-kind fun fitness day with their friends and family at the New England Patriots Dana Farber Field House. It’s a great event and we look forward to many more people being a part of it this year.
Over the past 5 years, Kids Helping Kids has raised nearly $30,000 for the YMCA’s Reach Out for Youth and Families Campaign.
