Pawtucket, RI –  Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island’s School of Nurse Anesthesia has been granted the maximum national accreditation by the

Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs. Mark A. Foster, CRNA program director, was notified that the program was one of only a few in the country to receive the maximum 10 year accreditation.

The decision was based on a thorough review of the didactic and clinical curriculum, interviews with representatives, administrators, faculty, students andclinical coordinators.

Memorial Hospital in conjunction with Central Connecticut State University offers a Masters of Science degree in Biological Sciences/Anesthesia. Graduates of the 29-month course of study are eligible to take the national certification examination and ultimately practice as a certified registered nurse anesthetist. During the program’s 46-year history, Memorial Hospital has more than 200 alumni, many of whom provide care in rural underserved areas throughout the country.

“I am very privileged to direct the program,” said Mark Foster. “It is very gratifying to work with outstanding individuals at Memorial and at our affiliated institutions with a common goal of mentoring our students.”

In addition to Central Connecticut State University, Memorial’s program maintains clinical affiliations with Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA, St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, MA, and Kent Hospital in Warwick, RI.
