??Longwood Symphony Orchestra visits CO-OP through the LSO on Call program.

North Dighton ???A string quartet from Longwood Symphony Orchestra entertained over 70 people from CO-OP at its Ingell Street, Taunton, day program site on Friday, February 26 through the LSO on Call program. In addition to CO-OP attendees, special guests included State Representative Shaunna O???Connell, Taunton Mayor Thomas Hoye, CO-OP Board members, and others from the greater Taunton-area business community.

??Longwood Symphony???s musicians are primarily healthcare professionals from Boston???s leading hospitals and universities, including doctors, medical students, research scientists, nurses, therapists, and caregivers–many of whom pursued music studies before turning to medicine. The LSO is known for a unique model of community engagement including LSO on Call, a??community outreach initiative??that brings free??chamber music directly to patients who can no longer attend concerts. The program operates across Massachusetts in hospital wards, rehabilitation centers, palliative hospices, and other healthcare facilities.

??The quartet at the CO-OP performance was made up of Colin Fadzen, a third year student in the Harvard/MIT MD-PhD program; William Joo who received a Ph.D. in Neurosciences from Stanford University and is currently a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University where he studies the genetics and neurobiology of sleep; Johnny Mok, an international prize-winning cellist who is currently earning a Masters of Music degree at The Boston Conservatory; and Iris Otani, LSO principal violinist and in training at Massachusetts General Hospital to be an internal medicine doctor specializing in the treatment of allergic and immunologic diseases.

??According to Bill Corbett, President and CEO of CO-OP, ???LSO on Call brought beautiful music to all of us at CO-OP. We are impressed not only by the quality of the music and the many talents exhibited by these young musicians but also by their willingness to take time out of their busy schedules to join us in Taunton.???
