Kingston, MA:?? The Narragansett Council, Boy Scouts of America is holding a Klondike Derby this weekend, Friday, January 27- Sunday, January 29 at Camp Norse in Kingston, MA.?? The Klondike Derby has been a Boy Scouts tradition since 1949.?? With a theme based on the history of the Klondike Gold Rush the derby is a weekend long competition in which teams of Scouts complete a sledge race on a course comprised of multiple ???towns???.
During the race, teams compete against each other, and the clock, utilize their Scouting skills and leadership abilities at various stations. All teams must transport their gear between stations on a homemade sled pulled by the Scouts.??
Stops along this weekend???s race include a snow fort building contest, a Dutch Oven cook off and a cribbage tournament.
The Klondike Derby is great opportunity for Scouts to practice their skills and prepare for cold weather camping.
