Providence, RI – April 28, 2017- Pitcher Chandler Shepherd and Catcher Tim Roberson of the PawSox baseball team joined volunteers in walking??students to school this morning,??as part of Family Service of Rhode Island’s (FSRI) Walking School Bus program.??

“We are excited to have the PawSox supporting our FSRI Walking School Bus this morning and helping to send the message to Rhode Island students that showing up for school matters,” said FSRI CEO Margaret Holland McDuff. “I know the kids are excited to have the opportunity to meet and talk with the players, and we are thankful for the support of the team. “

The FSRI Walking School Bus ensures students arrive safely and on time to stop chronic absenteeism, promote daily exercise, positive adult role models, and parent engagement with the school community. The program recruits volunteers who walk with the young children from their homes to school in the morning.??The??players will be walking students to the Fogarty School. Players and FSRI volunteers will depart from Fogarty School at??7:50am.

“As a student, being successful in the classroom begins with showing up to school on time,” said PawSox Executive Vice President & General Manager, Dan Rea. “We are happy that PawSox players are able to be a part of the Walking School Bus for a day, and we applaud Family Service of Rhode Island for all that they do for students in our community.”

This team up between the PawSox and FSRI is a part of FSRI’s #125Kindness campaign to celebrate the organization’s 125th??Anniversary.?? Earlier this year, FSRI was featured as the “Paws for a Cause” during the team’s April 11th??game.
