City will issue car tax bills at the end of September

PAWTUCKET ??? Mayor Donald R. Grebien announced that Pawtucket car owners can expect changes to their car tax bills following the passage of the car tax cut by the General Assembly and the Governor. While discussions were occurring at the state level, the City decided to delay issuing its bills to avoid confusion and the need to issue adjustments. The City will issue its car tax bills at the end of September.

???This tax cut provides needed relief for hardworking taxpayers,??? said Mayor Donald R. Grebien. ???Pawtucket???s delegation, along with my fellow mayor???s throughout Rhode Island, worked hard to advocate on this important issue. The City extends its thanks to the residents and taxpayers for their patience throughout this process.???

The deadline for first and second quarter payments of the car tax bills will be extended to November 30th to accommodate the delay. Taxpayers will not be assessed an interest penalty due to the delay in issuing the Motor Vehicle Excise Tax bills if they are paid on time, by the extended deadline.

Information on these changes and the extended deadline will be included in all car tax bills and the City will continue to publicize the extended deadline.

Taxpayers with additional questions or concerns are encouraged to visit the Collections Division website or contact them at 401-728-0500 ext. 344, or by email at taxinfo@pawtucketri.com.
