Free Screening of Landfill Harmonic: A Symphony of the Human Spirit

In collaboration with the Pawtucket Arts Festival, the Pawtucket Public Library will be hosting a free screening of the documentary film Landfill Harmonic: A Symphony of the Human Spirit on Wednesday, September 13th at 6pm in the Campbell Auditorium.

The documentary film follows the Recycled Orchestra of Cateura, a Paraguayan musical group that plays instruments made entirely out of garbage. When their story goes viral, the orchestra catapults into the global spotlight.

Under the guidance of idealistic music director Favio Chavez, the orchestra must navigate a strange new world of arenas and sold-out concerts.

However, when a national disaster strikes their community, Favio must find a way to keep the orchestra intact.

Directed by Brad Allgood & Graham Townsley and co-directed by Juliana Pe??aranda-Loftus, the 2016 film (NR) is 85 minutes and presented in Spanish with English subtitles.????

Best for ages 10 though adult.

The documentary film follows the same group of young musicians that are highlighted in the 2018 Rhode Island Children???s Book Award nominated picture book Ada’s Violin : The Story of the Recycled Orchestra of Paraguay written by Susan Hood and illustrated by Sally Wern Comport.

Two versions of the book, in English and Spanish, are available to check out at the Pawtucket Public Library.
