Tales and Trails

Join us for an hour-long story time and trail exploration just for preschoolers. Learn about the local animals that live in the habitats on the wildlife refuge – and maybe even spot a few!
Come dressed for the outdoors.
November 1, 2017 ??? Seed Safari in the Meadow
The leaves are changing color and the days are getting colder. Come join a reading of ???I???m a Seed??? and learn about what it takes for a seed to grow into a plant. Then take a walk through the meadow to look for seeds???some float with the wind, some pop when you touch them!

Beavers of Fisherville
Audubon Fisherville Brook Wildlife Refuge, Exeter, RI

Join Audubon for an evening walk and discussion regarding the beavers that have taken up residence in the Fisherville Pond. Take a look at beaver dams, lodges and hopefully observe the beavers themselves.
At dusk, these creatures become active, so we may get to see nature???s engineers at work.
Wear sturdy shoes and bring a flashlight. For children ages 8 and up.

Bugs, Mushrooms and Worms, Oh My! Nature???s Decomposers
Citizens Bank Free Family Fun Day
Audubon Environmental Education Center, Bristol, RI

Thanks to Citizens Bank, the Audubon Environmental Education Center is open free to the public the first Saturday of every month. Join us for crafts, animal discoveries, hikes and more.
Some of the smallest things in the forest have the biggest jobs to do! Decomposers like bugs, mushrooms and worms are the garbage men of the forest. They break down all the dead ???stuff??? that ends up on the forest floor and turn it into nutrients to help plants grow.
Go for a nature walk to look for bugs, meet an earthworm and dissect a mushroom!
No need to register.

Junior Naturalists for Home-schooled Families

November 14 & 15, 2017; 1:30 ??? 3:00 pm
Our popular home-school program now lasts an hour and a half. That means more time for outdoor exploration, so come dressed for the weather.
Join other home-schooled kids to learn about nature and science.
This program will introduce participants to a different topic each class, with hands-on experiments and nature-based activities that are sure to foster a love of the natural
world. Classes are limited to 15 children, so please register early. Adult must attend with child.
