THE KINGSTON TRIO IN WRENTHAM SEPTEMBER 22, 2018

HERE IS YOUR CHANCE

A KEN KingstonTrio-2

The Kingston Trio will be performing on Saturday, September 22, 7:00 p.m., at the Original Congregational Church in the center of Wrentham.

This concert is expected to sell out, so get your tickets early.

In the history of popular music, there are a relative handful of performers who have redefined the content of the music at critical points in history — people whose music left the landscape, and definition of popular music, altered completely.

A KEN KingstonTrio-1

The Kingston Trio were one such group, transforming folk music into a hot commodity and creating a demand — where none had existed before — for young men (sometimes with women) strumming acoustic guitars and banjos and singing folk songs and folk-like novelty songs in harmony.

The story began with Nick Reynolds who, along with Bob Shane and Dave Guard, founded this iconic San Francisco folk group in 1955.

Through talent and tenacity they rose to become the undisputed kings of the acoustic musical genre that exploded onto the American scene.

From the late ’50’s through the early ’60’s they dominated the creation and artistic exploration of folk music.

Indeed, in 1958 the Kingston Trio took home the first Grammy ever awarded to a country group. One year later, they were honored with a second Grammy, this time as a folk group.

Who can forget songs like Tom Dooley, Greenback Dollar, Five Hundred Miles, Sloop John B, The Reverend Mr. Black, The Tijuana Jail, M.T.A., and A Worried Man!

Josh Reynolds, son of original founding member Nick Reynolds, has joined forces with two of Nick???s closest kindred spirits, Mike Marvin, Nick???s nephew and Tim Gorelangton, Mike???s musical brother.?? Alongside Josh, Mike & Tim have re-captured that original Kingston Trio magic with their energy, humor and crowd charming musical repertoire.

They have emerged on today’s music scene as The Kingston Trio 3.0. No mere tribute band, but a true musical heritage continued. Complete with striped shirts and genes.

If you were lucky enough to have seen or heard the original Kingston Trio in the 1950???s and ???60’s, come now and experience some classic moments of d??j??-vu that you’ll always treasure.

Or, if you were never able–or just not around–to see what all the commotion was about back then, here’s your chance to come experience a hand-clapping, sing-along, modern day version of the Kingston Trio sensation in person.

Tickets for the concert are $50, available at the church office, 508-384-3110, or at www.musicatocc.org.

The event will be in the sanctuary of the church with entry from Route 1A.

Parking is available behind the church and in the lot across the street.??
