MAP???s 5th Grade Playwrights Present Get Out the Vote, Musical Inspired by November Elections
(Providence, RI) The Manton Avenue Project (MAP) will stage its next performance: October 18-21. Performances will take place at 7 pm on Thursday and Friday, and 2 pm on Saturday and Sunday at the Wilbury Theatre Group, 40 Sonoma Ct. in Providence.
The Manton Avenue Project (MAP) is a non-profit organization that unites children living in Providence???s Olneyville neighborhood with local theater professionals to create original plays together.
??The Manton Avenue Project???s mission is to nurture the unique potential of kids living in Olneyville through play making.??
Each of MAP???s out-of-school time programs is focused on play writing education, mentorship, and bringing the creative voices of young people to the stage. Get Out the Vote: The Musical! is the culminating production of The Manton Avenue Project???s 2018 Tag Team program, an 6-week after school play writing course.
The musical will be performed by local grown-up actors, and was developed with dramaturgy assistance by volunteer artists including?? a cohort of Brown/Trinity MFA consortium students.
???The Manton Avenue Project is thrilled to be present Get Out the Vote, a musical collaboration by ten young people who are very much impacted by the current state US politics. They???ve created a story about an evil baboon dictator, a wall separating magical islands, and a resistance forming to oust the leadership. All of the ideas and the story are completely student written and devised, and we couldn???t be prouder of their bravery and insight ,??? says MAP???s Executive Artistic Director Meg Sullivan.
This is the first production of The Manton Avenue Project???s 2018-2019 season, and the first ever as a resident company at the Wilbury Theatre Group???s new space. ???This represents a very important step for MAP, to be partnering with Wilbury at a new space in our Olneyville neighborhood is so exciting and so important,??? says Sullivan.
