Awkward Holidays & Inappropriate Traditions
A night of essays shared by WOMR hosts Susan Blood and Ira Wood
Provincetown, MA: Local humorists and radio hosts Ira Wood and Susan Blood will read from their work on December 27th at 6:00 at the Left Bank Gallery in Orleans with an evening of essays and book sale to benefit WOMR.
Titling their presentation “Awkward Holidays and Inappropriate Traditions,” Blood and Wood will bring their wry take on life and holidays to an evening that will invite the audience to laugh, cry, explore, and connect.
“Susan and Ira are both valued and talented members of the WOMR family, and having this opportunity to hear them share thoughts and societal critiques together is going to be great fun,” says John Braden, executive director of WOMR. “Listeners to the radio station are already familiar with their irreverent take on life, politics, and kitchen gadgets, and I’m looking forward to attending this show!”
Wood, the host of The Lowdown and contributor to Outer Cape News has been compared to Dave Barry and David Sedaris, and shares five-minute Andy Rooney-esque essays on air; his thoughtful take on life and humanity, The Lowdown, airs Tuesdays at 12:30. Blood’s work has appeared in numerous publications, including her own blog, Trout Towers. On WOMR she is Opera Betty, hosting an opera show for people who hate opera.
Admission is free but donations are appreciated. Books will be available to purchase from both writers with proceeds benefitting the nonprofit community radio station. The Left Bank Gallery is located at 8 Cove Road in Orleans.
In 1976 a small band of visionaries created a community radio station in Provincetown, and WOMR (Outermost Community Radio) went on the air on March 21st, 1982. Over the years the station has expanded to reach a wider audience and currently broadcasts at 92.1 FM as well as 91.3 FM, reaching listeners throughout Cape Cod and the South Shore, and streaming worldwide at womr.org. It is volunteer powered and listener supported.
