To the Editor;

 Another amazing step in driving people away from the Commonwealth is about to take place on August 1st, when the sales tax rises 25% from 5 percent to 6.25 percent. For those who normally came across the border from RI to take advantage of a 2% savings, it’s not that big of a deal now that it’ll only be a 0.75 discount from RI’s gaudy 7% sales tax. Rhode Islanders can now stay home and save on gas.

For those of us stuck as residents of the Commonwealth, just another case of the you-know-what hitting the fan…years of government mismanagement having to be paid for by the unfortunate people who are now of working and tax-paying age in 2009.

This pocket pilfering is really mind blowing. I’m bracing myself for more taxes on liquor, gasoline, cigarettes, meal taxes, and just about anything else that we have no control over stopping.

By the time it’s all over, there’s not much to show for your week’s hard work…that is, if you’re fortunate enough to still have a job!!!

 Sincerely,

 Mark C. Ambrose
