SMSH Kindergartener Amy Parkinson learns to use Mrs. Souza’s stethoscope as part of her special duties for the day.
Recently, Amy Parkinson, a kindergartener at Saint Mary-Sacred Heart School, experienced being “Nurse for a Day.” Mrs. Jeannine Souza, the school nurse, presented her with her very own scrubs. As an apprentice, Amy helped teach health classes on nutrition to the third and fourth graders. She also prepped all the nurse’s instruments and learned how to use a stethoscope and ear thermometer. Amy’s parents won the bid at the school’s auction on this coveted prize. The auction raised over $36,000 for the school; this will assist in covering the costs associated with their upcoming New England Association of Schools and Colleges reaccreditation and provide thirty new mini-laptops for student use in the classroom.
