ENJOY SPRING WEEKEND FEATURING ART, THEATER, COMMUNITY CELEBRATIONS, AND RETURN OF AMERICA???S PASTIME

Even though for some people, the April 1-2 weekend still feels like winter, don???t be fooled! It???s a great springtime weekend for residents and visitors alike to experience springtime cultural happenings throughout Rhode Island???s Blackstone River Valley National Historical Park.

Industrial heritage is only one facet of Blackstone River Valley???s impressive background. There???s more to explore, especially with the region???s vibrant artists and artisans, community connections and seeing tomorrow???s baseball stars so close to home!

The weekend presents a spectacular showcase of visual arts from all kinds of talents, great live and locally performed stage shows, along with great local family and hands-on activities.

Public Art Shows

All weekend, April 1-2, Arnold Mills Community House, 75 Hillside Road, Cumberland, RI presents its 26th Annual Arts Show & Sale, both days, 11 am -4 pm. This popular local show presents works of local artists including watercolors, oils, ceramics and mixed media arts.

Through May 11, Pawtucket Arts Collaborative, at the Lorraine Mills Complex, 560 Mineral Spring Avenue, Pawtucket, RI offers their Juried Arts Show, in cooperation with The Pawtucket Foundation, the non-profit business organization supporting the city???s economic development efforts.??

Don???t miss this highly anticipated exhibition of Pawtucket based artists, highlighting and supporting the Creative Community of the arts in Pawtucket and to recognize outstanding artistic merit.

Now through April 30, the Museum of Work & Culture, at Market Square, Woonsocket, hosts Through Our Eyes, an exhibit by the Rhode Island Consortium for Autism Research & Treatment (RI-CART). All of the work on display was created by artists with autism and related neurodevelopment conditions.

And, The Samaritans, at their Forget Me Not Gallery, 67 Park Place, Pawtucket, RI features Abstract Rainy Moments by artist Rachel Brask. This exhibit is on display through June 30.

Live and local theater

Rhode Island Stage Ensemble, at the RISE Playhouse, 142 Clinton Street, Woonsocket, RI has the play Lend Me A Tenor performing through April 9.

The theater troupe performs Ken Ludwig’s farce, where a small-town opera company undergoes a crisis in its latest production of Verdi’s “Othello” when the world-famous tenor they’ve brought in becomes indisposed. But luckily the producer’s lowly assistant steps in to cover the role.

Caring for our environment

Springtime is often associated with revitalization, rebirth and renewal. It???s also a time where concerned citizens and community leaders gather to volunteer time out of their routines to spruce up places and spaces that have much local significance.

Every Saturday in April, participate in Volunteer Clean Ups happening at varied local sites in the Blackstone River Valley of Northern RI and nearby Central MA.

Areas targeted for the volunteer clean ups include river front sites, parks, villages and other noted locations.

Once again, with springtime, comes the start of America???s game of baseball! And, there???s no better way to see the players and the game that with the 2017 Home Games for the AAA ball team Pawtucket Red Sox, at McCoy Stadium, Ben Mondor Way, Pawtucket, RI.

The ???Paw Sox??? has a great season ahead for their fans during their season, which runs until Labor Day weekend in September. The team is also making an extra effort commitment to fans and the community in providing other festivities and special events to enjoy the game and the team on and off the field.
