Friends Of Library Annual Book Sale

Friends members Agnes Woodbury, Judy Lewis, Alice Jost, Fred Walnut, and Judy Friend check out new selections for the Friends of Richards Memorial 2010 Book Sale.

A lot of summer routines change with September, but there’s one thing that remains constant: The Annual Book Sale sponsored by the Friends of Richards Memorial Library. This year’s edition, dubbed “Sail into Savings,” takes place from Thursday, September 16, through Saturday, September 18.

Bill Sears, Friends president, says there are more bargains and more selection this year than ever before. “Imagine hard cover books for $1.00, children’s books from 25¢, and all the DVDs you could ever watch for just a buck apiece,” says Sears. In addition to the classics, this year’s sale offers a tremendous selection of nearly new books covering topics including mystery, romance, history, gardening, wellness, children’s stories, cooking, religion, sports, and just about any other subject one can imagine.

Prices this year are set to make it easy for anyone to select books they’ve always wanted to read and maybe delve into some books they’ve never heard of that look too interesting to pass up. The friendly price structure is: $1.00 for hardcover books, 50¢ for paperbacks; 25¢ and up for children’s books; $1.00 for trade paperbacks and books on tape; and $1.00 for CDs, DVDs, and records. As always, attendees are able to walk away with bags full of reading and listening materials to stay entertained and informed until the next Friends Book Sale rolls around.

Purchase of books and the other materials allows the Friends to make a meaningful contribution to help support the Library’s valuable programs throughout the coming year. Once again, the location will be the Masonic Temple, 46 S. Washington St. in N. Attleboro (across from Town Hall). The dates and times are Friday, September 17, 2:30 pm to 8 pm, and Saturday, September 18 from 9:00 am to 2 pm.  Delicious, home-baked goodies will also be available both days at bargain prices.

And, if you’re a Friends member (or would like to be one), you’re invited to a special “Members Only” preview and reception Thursday evening, September 16, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm with light refreshments served. You can join the Friends on the spot if you’re not already a member. Doing this lets you “beat the rush” and get first crack at all the books and recordings.

Come early because everything is priced to sell fast. Other information about the sale is available by calling the Richards Memorial Library front desk at 508-699-0122.
