 Mark Richard McCann Attleboro Native

Mark Richard McCann, 38, of Sharp Lake Drive, Cocoa, Florida; an Attleboro native; died unexpectedly on Monday, March 24, 2008 in Florida.

Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts on February 14, 1970, he was a son of Martin Richard McCann of South Attleboro and the late Carole A. (Nicholson) McCann who died in 1981. He was the stepson of the late Roberta “Bobbie” (LaPointe) McCann who died on April 7, 2007.

Raised and educated in Attleboro, Mr. McCann attended Attleboro High School and resided in Attleboro until moving to Florida 20 years ago.

In his youth he, along with his family, was a communicant of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Church in South Attleboro where he served as an altar attendant.

Mr. McCann was employed as a carpenter in the construction industry and was currently employed by Werle & Son, Inc, a general contracting firm, in Cocoa, Florida.

He was an ardent fan of car racing with a special liking for the NASCAR and Busch series.

In addition to his father, he leaves three daughters: Jesika McCann of Shamokin, Pennsylvania; Carolyn McCann of Cocoa, Florida and Lilly McCann of Cocoa, Florida; a grandson: Kayden McCann of Shamokin, Pennsylvania; two sisters:

Dr. Kelly O’Callahan of Sterling and Tracy Brumble of Mansfield; a brother: Kevin M. McCann of Taunton; his paternal grandmother: Mary (Donlevy) Chatigny of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; a stepsister: Heather Dalton LaFrance of Meriden, Connecticut; two stepbrothers: L. Michael Dalton, Jr. of Attleboro and Matthew P. Dalton, Sr. of Abington and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members.

J. Teresa (Wood) Scherer

Former Attleboro And North Attleboro Resident

J. Teresa (Wood) Scherer, 85, of Thompson Walton Court, Farmington, Maine; a former Attleboro and North Attleboro resident; died on Sunday, March 30, 2008 at the Franklin (Maine) Memorial Hospital after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late William J. Scherer who died on July 28, 1972.


Born in South Brewer, Maine on June 24, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Peter A. and Lillian (Blackman) Wood. She was raised and educated in Maine where she was a 1941 graduate of Brewer High School.

Mrs. Scherer returned to her native state 17 years ago after having resided in Mendon, Attleboro, North Attleboro and Cape Cod communities for several years. She was employed as a bookkeeper for several local small businesses including W. E. Richards and Sillman’s Shoe Store both of Attleboro.


A lifelong horse lover, Mrs. Scherer was a member of the American Morgan Horse Association.

She enjoyed playing bingo and cards but her most treasured time was that spent in the company of her beloved family and circle of friends.


She leaves four children: Sandra “Sandy” J. Klepsak and her husband, William F. Klepsak, Jr., of North Attleboro; Pamela J. Scherer and her partner, Paula Boulette, of Mendon; Alan P. Scherer and his wife, Vicki L. (Turnbow) Scherer, of Tacoma, Florida and William O. Scherer and his wife, Jacqueline Scherer, of Thornton, Colorado; 6 grandchildren; one great grandchild; a sister: Evelyn W. Pierce of Farmington, Maine and several nieces and nephews.


She was the sister of the late Anna W. Moore, Adrian J. Wood, Peter E. Wood, Otis J. Wood and Clarice W. Atkinson. Gerald Bates “Jerry” Lithway - North Attleboro

Gerald Bates “Jerry” Lithway, 66, of Whalen Drive, North Attleboro, died on Thursday, March 20, 2008 at the Life Care Center of Attleboro where he had been a resident for the past two weeks. He was the loving husband of Bonita E. “Bonnie” (England) Lithway to whom he was married on June 15, 1963.

Born in Chicago Heights, Illinois on May 21, 1941, he was a son of the late Henry Joseph and Margretta E. (Degitz) Lithway. He was raised and educated in Vermont where he was a 1959 graduate of Derby Academy in Derby, Vermont. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in business management from the University of Vermont in 1964.

Mr. Lithway was employed most recently at Hallsmith-Sysco in Taunton from 1987 until his retirement in 2006.

Previously, Mr. Lithway was employed by the former Saga Corporation, later becoming the Marriott Hotel Corporation, for more than 25 years. He held a number of capacities with the firm including in the training and development departments and had served as the Director of Personnel for the Northeast division.

A resident of North Attleboro since 1973, Mr. Lithway previously resided in South Windsor, Connecticut for four years; Springfield, Massachusetts for five years and East Hartford, Connecticut for two years. Prior to moving to Connecticut, he was a longtime resident of the State of Vermont.

A longtime member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Attleboro, Mr. Lithway served his church community in a number of capacities. Presently he was the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, served on the Financial Committee, served on two occasions as the Co-Chairperson of the Annual Bazaar, was the Clerk of Works for the recent renovation project, vice chairperson of the Hebronville Outreach Center and was instrumental in the formation and founding of the Hebronville Outreach Center.
In earlier years, he was a leader for the Boy Scout of America program within the Annawon Council and was a former member of the North Attleboro Jaycees.

In addition to his wife of almost 45 years, he leaves three sons: Scott A. Lithway of Plainville; Brian D. Lithway of North Attleboro and Randal B. Lithway of Attleboro; seven grandchildren: Nicole Lithway and Kyle Lithway both of Plainville; Steven Lithway, Matthew Keogh and Lauren Keogh all of North Attleboro and Jordan Lithway and Reagan Lithway both of Attleboro; a brother: David H. Lithway of Tiverton, Rhode Island; a sister: Linda A. Iverson of Hackettstown, New Jersey; his mother-in-law: Alice R. (Taylor) England of Newport, Vermont and a niece and a nephew.

Andrew J. Falk - Attleboro
Stern-Leach Employee

Andrew John Falk, 43, of Canadian Geese Road, Attleboro, died unexpectedly upon arrival to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro on Friday, March 21, 2008. He was the husband of Nancy Lynne (Keers) Falk to whom he was married on October 12, 1997 at All Saints Episcopal Church in Attleboro.

Born in Springfield, Massachusetts on June 20, 1964, he was a son of Patricia B. (Barry) Falk of Attleboro and the late Alan Manford Falk who died on February 2, 2001.

He resided in Pittsfield and Northborough prior to moving to Attleboro in 1981. He completed high school in Attleboro as a member of the graduating class of 1982 at Attleboro High School. He later attended Northeastern University in Boston. He remained an Attleboro resident for the past 27 years.

Mr. Falk was employed as a sales representative for

Stern-Leach in Attleboro for the past 23 years. A longtime member of the Attleboro Foreman’s Club he served as the organization’s treasurer for five years.

An ardent golfer, Mr. Falk was a junior member of the Highland Country Club many years ago and was a member of B.A.G.S. – Boston Amateur Golf Society. He took great pride in achieving a hole-in-one at the Crestbrook Park Golf Course in Watertown, Connecticut.

He enjoyed snowmobiling and took great pride, almost obsessively, of caring for his lawn and performing yard maintenance.

In addition to his wife of almost 11 years and his mother, he leaves a daughter: Lindsay E. Falk, age 4, at home in Attleboro; a sister: Dianne T. Thurber, immediate past chairperson of the Attleboro Area Chamber of Commerce, and her husband, Michael J. Thurber, of South Attleboro; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Townsend and Mildred E. (Miller) Keers of Watertown, Connecticut; his wife’s siblings: Joanne Keers of Watertown, Massachusetts; Brian Keers of Terryville, Connecticut and Peter Keers of Riverton, Utah; a nephew and several aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members, friends and colleagues.

He was the paternal grandson of the late John A. and Anna T. (Blue) Falk and was the maternal grandson of the late Robert and Irene E. (Abair) Barry.

Joseph Nicholas Abreu, Sr. - Pawtucket

Joseph Nicholas Abreu, Sr., 75, of Harris Street, Pawtucket, Rhode Island, died on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at the Oak Hill Nursing Home in Pawtucket, Rhode Island following a period of declining death. He was the husband of the late Doris A. (Dupere) Abreu who died on August 15, 2006.

Born in Mansfield, Massachusetts on September 10, 1932, he was a son of the late John and Maria Abreu. He resided in Pawtucket for many years having previously resided in Central Falls for four years and in Mansfield. He was a 1951 graduate of the former Pawtucket East High School.

Mr. Abreu proudly served his nation as a member of the United States Army having enlisted on December 9, 1952 and serving until his honorable discharge on October 14, 1954 with the rank of Corporal.

From 1953 – 1989, he was employed as a foreman by the former Arbeka Webbing Company in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Mr. Abreu worked for

Fuller Packaging in Central Falls, Rhode Island from 1989 until his retirement in 1994.

A true sports enthusiast, Mr. Abreu was a fan of the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Bruins and the New England Patriots.

He enjoyed playing hand-held computer games; however, his family was of the utmost importance to him and he treasured the cherished memories created when amidst loving family and friends.

Mr. Abreu leaves three children: Laurie A. Kane of Attleboro; Donna M. Santilli of Providence, Rhode Island and Joseph N. Abreu, Jr. of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; 14 grandchildren and 3, soon to be 4, great grandchildren. He was the father of the late John J. Abreu, Sr. who died on May 7, 2006. He was predeceased by all of his siblings.

Theodore A. “Ted” Belanger, Jr.

Middleboro

Theodore A. “Ted” Belanger, Jr., 56, of Kevin Drive, Middleboro, passed away on his own terms following a lengthy illness at his residence on Friday, March 21, 2008.

Born in Taunton, Massachusetts on August 13, 1951, he was the only son of the late Theodore A. Belanger, Sr. who passed away in July 1997 and the late Catherine A. (Perry) Belanger, RN who died on July 6, 2007.


Mr. Belanger attended and graduated from the former Monsignor Coyle High School in Taunton in 1969 and attended Stonehill College in Easton.

Mr. Belanger was employed in the mental health industry for many years and for the past 25 years he was a group home coordinator for Delta Projects, Inc. in Taunton.

Raised and educated in Taunton, Mr. Belanger was a resident of Middleboro for the past six years and previously resided in North Providence, Rhode Island for 15 years.


He was an avid lover of both cars and boats. An ardent reader, he also enjoyed downhill skiing and was a lover of all types of animals, especially cats.

He leaves one sister: Karen M. Nelson and her husband, Paul M. Peloquin, of Rehoboth; a beloved nephew: PFC Christopher G. Nelson, US Army, currently serving in Iraq, and his wife, Jennifer Lynne (LaValley) Nelson, of Rehoboth and numerous cousins.

Beatrice M. (Brousseau) LaBelle Souza - North Attleboro

Beatrice M. (Brousseau) LaBelle Souza, 96, of Ellis Road, North Attleboro, died on Sunday, March 9, 2008 at the Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. She was the wife of the late Manuel E. Souza who died in 1997 and the late Louis P. LaBelle who died on May 29, 1968.

Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts on June 19, 1911, she was a daughter of the late Seigfred and Delia (Leclair) Brousseau. She attended Seekonk public schools.

Mrs. LaBelle Souza resided in the Manville section of Lincoln, Rhode Island for almost five years and previously was a longtime North Attleboro resident having moved to the community from neighboring Attleboro.

Primarily a devoted and dedicated homemaker to her family, she worked from 1969 – 1972 at the Robbins Company in Attleboro.

She and her late husband, Louis, enjoyed the time spent at the family cottage on Cape Cod in Buzzards Bay in earlier years.

She was a communicant of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, North Attleboro.

In the 1940s she developed a love for archery and was a member of the Anawon Archery Club where she was a champion archer.

A former member of the AARP, Mrs. LaBelle Souza enjoyed traveling particularly taking cruises.

A woman of strong intelligence, she enjoyed photography, knitting, cooking, sewing and crocheting.

A lover of music, she played the organ and had a passion for line dancing. For more than 11 years she volunteered teaching line dance at the North Attleboro Senior Center. Her skills were so well perfected in the art that she choreographed two dances that were used throughout New England.

She leaves a daughter: Lorraine I. King and her husband, Raymond E. King, of North Attleboro; three grandchildren: Gary M. King of Johnston, Rhode Island; Raymond S. King of Attleboro and Julie A. King-Deininger of North Attleboro; seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Delia Tremblay, Alfred Brousseau and Mary Brousseau.

James Raymond Snyder -  Attleboro

James Raymond Snyder, 73, of Keith Drive, Attleboro, died unexpectedly despite a period of declining health on Friday, March 7, 2008 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, Massachusetts. He was the husband of Gloria L. (Leonard) Snyder to whom he was married on August 8, 1953.

Born in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania on September 5, 1934, he was a son of Kathryn (Miller) Snyder of Apopka, Florida and the late Elmer Leo Snyder.

Raised and educated in the township of Mount Pleasant, Mr. Snyder was a 1953 graduate of Ramsey High School in that community. He was awarded his Masters in Vocational Education from the University of Central Florida in 1976.

Mr. Snyder taught at numerous vocational schools for many years prior to his retirement in 1990 from the Colonial High School in Orlando, Florida where he taught classes regarding automotives.

A resident of Attleboro since January 2005, he and his wife previously resided in Norton, Cranston, Rhode Island and were Orlando, Florida residents for more than 30 years prior to moving to New England.

In Florida, Mr. Snyder was a member of the Lions Club. He enjoyed his leisure time spent working on automotives even though his professional time was spent teaching those same skills to students.

Mr. Snyder enjoyed time spent performing yard work and gardening.

In addition to his wife of 54 years and his mother, he leaves a son: Bryan James Snyder and his wife, Kellee (Fitzgerald) Snyder, of Norton; a daughter: Pamela Snyder Burwell in Texas; a granddaughter: Tia Snyder in Michigan; two great grandchildren: Ashley Snyder of Norton and Madison Snyder in Michigan and a brother: Glenn W. “Buck” Snyder of Apopka, Florida. He was the father of the late Gregory Snyder who died in 1996.

Alfred Furtado Simas - South Attleboro

Alfred Furtado Simas, 89, of Highland Avenue, South Attleboro, died on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro following a period of declining health that began in December. He was the devoted husband of the late Diolinda Trinidade (Botelho) Simas to whom he was married on June 5, 1943 and who died on September 14, 2007.

Born in Warwick, Rhode Island on July 9, 1918, he resided in South Attleboro for more than 50 years having moved from the Lonicut section of Attleboro where he had resided for five years. Prior to moving to Massachusetts, Mr. Simas resided in Warwick, Rhode Island.

Mr. Simas was a communicant of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Church, South Attleboro.
He was employed as a press operator for Larson Tool & Stamping Company in Attleboro for more than 20 years prior to his retirement in 1983.


He will be lovingly remembered by his family as a “private man” with a “quiet sense of humor”.
Times spent gardening were most pleasurable and in earlier years he raised gladiolas, dahlias, delphinium and asters that he would sell to local florists.


Grape vines in his backyard gave the fruit to produce his own “vino”.


One of his greatest joys came from the times he spent in the company of his cherished family. He leaves three children: Virginia T. Lamontagne and her husband, Joseph E. Lamontagne, Sr., of Dinwiddie, Virginia; John Furtado Simas of Pawtucket, Rhode Island and Raymond A. Simas and his wife, Connie (Volpe) Simas, of North Attleboro; 4 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and a brother: Michael Simas of New Bedford. He was the maternal grandfather of the late Mark B. Chartier who died in 1990. He was predeceased by several siblings.

Private visitation will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2008 in the “Memorial Chapel” of the DYER-LAKE FUNERAL HOME, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, ¾ mile on the left) Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.


Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, March 14, 2008 at 10:00 AM at St. Mark’s Roman Catholic Church, 105 Stanley Street (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, turn right onto Stanley Street in ½ mile and travel to end of Stanley Street), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro with the Rev. Burial will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery in the Dodgeville section of Attleboro.

Paul Donald Boudreau - Norton

Paul Donald Boudreau, 86, of Mansfield Avenue, Norton; formerly of East Washington Street, North Attleboro and East Street, Attleboro; died on Monday, March 10, 2008 at the Epoch Senior Health Care of Norton. He was the beloved husband of Virginia E. (Bruffill) Boudreau to whom he was married on January 16, 1943 in Attleboro, Massachusetts.

Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts on July 15, 1921, he was one of nine children born to the late Stephen and Mary (Frigon) Boudreau. He was raised and educated in the City of Attleboro where he resided for many years prior to moving to North Attleboro 8 years ago and then to Norton on September 13, 2007.

Just as he was about to turn 17 years old, he enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Fort Devens and served from his enrollment on July 13, 1937 until his honorable discharge on June 30, 1938.



He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard on September 17, 1942 in Providence, Rhode Island and served honorably until his discharge in Brooklyn, New York on November 16, 1945.


Mr. Boudreau was employed as a tubing drawer for Leach & Garner in Attleboro for 45 years until his retirement in 1984. Following his retirement, he returned to work and was employed by the former Pelletier’s Auto Parts, now Carquest, in Attleboro for 20 years.


Not one to stop working, he returned to work once again and was employed as a school crossing guard for the Town of North Attleboro having been assigned to the Community School crossing in downtown North Attleboro from 2004 – 2007.


He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, North Attleboro.


Known for his quick wit and sense of humor, he enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the City of Attleboro league for many years and at one time was one of the oldest members and still refused to use a cart to get from one hole to the other. He claimed to be able to “smell out” a golf course from afar.


An ardent walker, he would walk despite the weather conditions. He also enjoyed bicycling even in recent years.

In addition to his loving wife of 65 years, Virginia E. (Bruffill) Boudreau, he leaves a daughter: Donna J. Sirois and her husband, Robert J. Sirois, of North Attleboro; a son: Richard D. Boudreau in Florida; four grandchildren: Mark P. Laferriere of North Attleboro; Lisa M. Trotter of North Attleboro; Ashley S. Schwartz in Indiana and Arlyn S. Fernandes in Florida; 9 great grandchildren; a brother: Norman N. Boudreau of Plainville; a sister: Celia Hewes of North Attleboro and numerous nieces and nephews.


He was the beloved maternal grandfather of the late Lynn M. Hawes who died on May 3, 2000.
Mr. Boudreau was predeceased by his siblings: Claire Murphy, Annette O’Neil, Juliette DeBlois, Irene Joyce, Henry Boudreau and Raymond Boudreau.

Kendall Henry Porter - Rehoboth
Kendall Henry Porter, 91, of Wright Street, Rehoboth; formerly of Sunset Acres, Washington Street, Plainville and North Attleboro; died on Monday, March 3, 2008 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro following a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Anita Alene (Lafayette) Porter to whom he was married on August 27, 1947 and who died on July 8, 1995.

Born in Vergennes, Vermont on October 22, 1916, Mr. Porter was a son of the late Jessie and Charlotte “Lottie” (Fortier) Porter. He was educated in Charlestown, New Hampshire where he was one of thirteen students in his graduating class of 1935.

Mr. Porter was employed for many years as a master carpenter having worked in the construction trade for many years.From 1976 until his retirement in 1984, he was employed as a salesman for the former Rumford Supply Company in

Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

Mr. Porter moved from his home in Plainville to Rehoboth three years ago. While residing in Plainville, he was a communicant of St. Martha’s Roman Catholic Church.

In earlier years he and his family enjoyed the time spent camping in their motor home.

He excelled in using a home computer and was a fan of country music with a special love for LeAnn Rimes.

Mr. Porter enjoyed remote control models such as helicopters, airplanes and ships.

His greatest love and satisfaction came from the time spent in the company of family and friends.

He leaves eight children: Jo Ann Parsons of North Attleboro; Patricia Desmarais of Norton; Raymond Porter of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; Mary Campbell of South Attleboro; Gail Gutgsell of Smithfield, Rhode Island; Marsha Gravel of New Port Ritchie, Florida; Kenneth Porter of North Attleboro and Robin A. Santos of Rehoboth; 27 grandchildren and many great and great great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Blanche Tatro.
