North Attleboro Cultural Council To Sponsor Summer Gazebo Concert Series |
The North Attleborough Cultural Council (NACC) is sponsoring the 2008 Gazebo Concert Series this summer at the Gazebo/Bandstand in Veterans Park near Town Hall. Robert Deschene, chairman of the NACC, observes that "North Attleborough is one of the few communities in this area that does not have an ongoing outdoor summer concert series, and these types of family events would be a wonderful opportunity to bring our community together for enjoyable musical evenings in a beautiful setting." The nine concerts, which will be free to the public on which will kick off with an old-fashioned "Fourth of July" Bandstand Concert on July 1, will be held on successive Tuesday evenings from July 1 to August 26, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The concerts will feature a wide variety of music styles, including pop, folk, jazz, classical, international, Dixieland, and swing. Food concessions and children’s activities will be available. The NACC also will provide free bus transportation to the nostalgic concerts for the elderly from the town’s various senior centers, and plans to use any profits from the series to establish a scholarship program for local high school seniors interested in pursuing an arts-related education.
The NACC currently is in the process of raising the necessary funds for the series, and is asking town residents and local businesses if they would financially contribute to this community endeavor in whatever way they can afford. Over 450 local businesses have been contacted, and asked to serve as concert series supporters. To date, generous contributions already have been received from DANA, Bedard Realty, Dyer-Lake Charitable Foundation, Blue Hill Plumbing & Heating, the Sun Chronicle, the Free Press, My Backyard, and Island Oasis. Because the Massachusetts Cultural Council and NACC are a public charitable agencies, all contributions donated to the NACC are fully tax deductible to the donor under Internal Revenue Code § 170. The names of all contributing "Friends" (a contribution of $25-50), "Patrons" ($50-$200) and "Cosponsors" (over $200) will be listed in all concert series’ advertising and promotional materials, in the scholarship application brochures, and will be displayed prominently at the concert venue. Ray Bourque Makes Sure Project Is Finished On Time |
South Attleboro neighbor Ray Bourque appreciates architectural restoration well done. He understands and admires the workmanship of the original and the restored. Ray is generous. When a spirited North Attleborough Campaign raised tens of thousands of dollars to restore the clock, the works and faces of that prized feature of the Town Public Safety Building fell short of its goal, Ray stepped forward to fund the remainder of the cost of the project.
The contribution to restore the four faces of the clock is in honor of Ray’s four children. David, Steffen, Susan and Glen are all residents of the town. No doubt you recognize the tradition that passes from generation to generation. Ray, congratulations on a good deed well done. |
