JULY 7-18 – Summer at the Marion Natural History Museum offers kids two opportunities to get outside. “Life Along the Shore” is for kids entering grade 1&2, and uses games, journals and introductory science techniques to explore the plants and animals that live in our area’s many coastal habitats. The second program, “Watershed Discovery,” is an in-depth investigation of our area’s water resources for students entering grades 3&4. With the use of microscopes, field guides and other equipment kids will explore the unique features and health of local riverbanks, swamps, ponds, bogs and marshes. JULY 12- JULY 21 – Gallery 4 in Tiverton Four Corners opening reception. New paintings by elephants are back for a third season. 3-6pm. 3848 Main Road, Tiverton four corners. Three years ago, Bob Smith, co-owner of Gallery 4 in Tiverton Four Corners, went to Thailand and discovered a nature preserve where the elephants actually paint pictures. Charmed by their work, Smith purchased several of the paintings for the Gallery. The exhibit sold out in two weeks and the exhibit of Elephant Paintings in 2007 met with similar success. A portion of the proceeds of the sale of these paintings will go to the Elephant Center and other animal protection groups. Gallery 4 is open Monday-Saturday, 10am-5pm; Sunday noon-5pm. ONGOING- Calling all Kayaks, Row Boats, Gigs and Whaleboats. Ongoing registration for the fun 3 _ mile race that starts at Fort Taber Park, New Bedford. Circles the Butler Flats Lighthouse and proceeds north to the Hurricane Barrier and back to Fort Taber Park. This race is held in conjunction with the Coalition for Buzzards Bay Annual Swim Buzzards Bay. Great spectator viewing of the entire racecourse and after race refreshments and award ceremony.
