Sea-king??? a volunteer opportunity? Join the Volunteer Staff at Save The Bay???s Exploration Center and Aquarium

NEWPORT, R.I. ??? March 2, 2018 ??? Save The Bay is recruiting volunteers for its Exploration Center and Aquarium. Volunteer docents help visitors interact with hands-on exhibits and teach them about the creatures and ecology of Narragansett Bay. The Exploration Center, open 10 a.m. ??? 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday and daily after Memorial Day, is home to over 40 different species of marine life native to Narragansett Bay and features three touch tanks.

???We have a great team of volunteers, all educating visitors about these amazing creatures that call Narragansett Bay home,??? said July Lewis, volunteer and internship manager at Save The Bay. ???We welcome students over 16, college students, retirees, military volunteers ??? anyone who likes aquariums and people is encouraged to sign up for the orientation,??? said Lewis. Volunteers play an integral role in making guests’ experiences at the aquarium educational and interactive. Interested volunteers are encouraged to sign up for one of the following orientations, held at the Exploration Center and Aquarium, 175 Memorial Blvd., Newport, R.I.

  • Thursday, March 8, 5-6 p.m.
  • Thursday, March 22, 5-6 p.m.
  • Thursday, April 12, 5-6 p.m.
  • Thursday, May 3, 5-6 p.m.

Volunteer docents must be reliable, friendly and good at interacting with the public. Volunteers must also be at least 16 and willing to commit to an ongoing schedule of at least one half-day shift per month, or a minimum of 20 hours for short-term volunteering.
