(February 8, 2019) – March means reptiles at Audubon!  Bring the kids for some up-close experiences and learn all about these cool creatures.

Citizens Bank Free Family Fun Day

Radical Reptiles

Audubon Nature Center and Aquarium, Bristol, RI

Thanks to the Citizens Bank, the Audubon Nature Center and Aquarium is open free to the public the first Saturday of every month. Join us for crafts, nature stories, animal discoveries, hikes and more. No registration required.

March 2, 2019: Radical Reptiles

10:00 am – 2:00 pm: Nature Craft table

10:00 am – 2:00 pm: Spot the Turtle. Can you spot 10 turtles in our exhibit hall? Spot them all and receive a prize to take home.

10:30 am & 2:30 pm: Nature Story

11:00 am: Vertebrates program

1:30 pm: Reptile Interview

Audubon Maple Sugaring and Pancake Breakfast

Audubon Caratunk Wildlife Refuge, Seekonk, MA

 March 16, 2019; 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Step back in time at the Caratunk Wildlife Refuge to experience the history of maple sugaring. Discover how Native Americans started maple sugaring and how to make this sweet syrup in your own backyard. Taste first hand this delectable treat over breakfast. Sample pancakes, muffins and other tasty treats – all with fresh maple syrup. Tours begin every 15 minutes starting at 9:00 am. Please register in advance, this is a popular program and space is limited. Rhode Island maple syrup will be available for purchase.

Caratunk Wildlife Refuge, 301 Brown Avenue, Seekonk, MA; Fee: $12 member adult/ $6 member child; $14/non-member adult, $7/non-member child. Ages: 5+. Register online through the events calendar at www.asri.org.

 

Junior Naturalists for Home-schooled Families

Audubon Nature Center and Aquarium, Bristol, RI

March 20, 2019; 1:00 – 2:30 pm

Home-schooled children learn about nature and science at Audubon. This program will introduce participants to a different topic each class, with hands-on experiments and nature-based activities that are sure to foster a love of the natural world. Classes are limited to 15 children, so please register early. Adult must attend with child.

March 20, 2019: Animal Tracks & Signs

Audubon Nature Center and Aquarium, 1401 Hope Street, Bristol, RI; Fee per program: $10/member child, $6/additional sibling; $12/non-member child, $8/additional sibling. Ages: 6-12.

 

Li’l Peeps

Audubon Nature Center and Aquarium, Bristol, RI

March 21, 28, April 4, 11, 25, May 2, 2019; 9:45 – 10:45 am
This popular program introduces children ages 18 months to 2 years to the delights of nature through age-appropriate, hands-on activities. Along with a nature lesson, activities may include nature walks, crafts, songs and stories. This is also a wonderful opportunity to make new friends with the other children and parents. Registration is required as space is limited and fills very quickly. Adults must accompany children and there are no refunds for missed classes. In order to maintain an age-appropriate program we ask that older siblings not accompany the parent/child team.

Audubon Nature Center and Aquarium, 1401 Hope Street, Bristol, RI; Fee for six week series: $60/member child, $76/two member siblings; $65/non-member child, $82/two non-member siblings. Ages: 18 months up to 36 months. Note there is no class on April 18.

 

Turtle Monday

Come meet Otto and Speedy, the Caratunk turtles! We will learn about local turtles species, their habitats and have a treat to eat.
