WEAVER: “SOMETHING ABOUT LIGHTHOUSES”

Leading New England Lighthouse Authority to speak at the Weaver Library

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I.  – Everyone knows there’s “something about lighthouses” that gives them broad appeal, but their vital role in our history and culture is little appreciated. Our early nation was built on maritime economy, and lighthouses were part of the system that made that possible. Due to automation, traditional lighthouse keeping is a way of life that has faded into the past.

Leading lighthouse authority Jeremy D’Entremont tells the history of New England’s historic and picturesque lighthouses at the Weaver Library on Monday, September 23, 2019 at 7pm.  D’Entremont’s talk primarily focuses on the colorful and dramatic stories of lighthouse keepers and their families.

D’Entremont has written more than 20 books on lighthouse history and other maritime topics. He has appeared on the History Channel, Travel Channel, Public Television, and National Public Radio.  He is the President of the American Lighthouse Foundation and the founder of Friends of Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouses.

Weaver Library is located at 41 Grove Avenue, East Providence, RI 02914.
