ON PAPER
From November 3 through December 27, 2019, Gallery 175 will be showing artwork by three talented artists in its gallery in downtown Pawtucket, RI.
The three artists, Lisa Bailey, Carolina Arentsen, and Barbara Pagh, all use paper as a substrate, but each work with different media.
Lisa Bailey is a watercolor artist and art teacher based in Franklin, MA. Inspired by stained glass windows, kaleidoscopes and impressionism, Bailey transforms realistic forms into abstract patterns that create a rhythm of emerging and disappearing imagery. The transparent and fluid qualities of watercolor enhance the luminosity and moment in her paintings.
Designer and artist, Carolina Arentsen, will be showing a series of mixed-media paintings, titled “Living Room.” By layering collage papers, ink, and paint, Arentsen depicts familiar domestic objects with an exuberance of color and expression that energizes her images. Born in Chile, Arentsen attended RISD and now lives in Providence.
Recently retired from the University of Rhode Island where she taught printmaking, Barbara Pagh, prints on paper that she has made herself. Her inspiration comes from landscapes and her process involves digitally transforming photographic images into patterns that are then handprinted. Her finished prints are not realistic, but instead are subjective impressions based on structure and color and resulting in a layering of texture and form.
The public is invited to enjoy the artwork at Gallery 175, located at 175 Main Street in downtown Pawtucket in the Blackstone Valley Visitor Center.
The gallery is open daily; the hours are 10 am to 4 pm. A reception for the artists will be held on November 3 from 2 to 3:30 pm.
