Astronomer and telescope maker Barry Peckham will lead a discussion and telescope viewing exploring the scientific, religious, and cultural significance of Little Compton’s nineteenth-century night sky.

Mr. Peckham will highlight its differences from the sky we view today and explain the implications of a truly dark sky, nineteenth-century residents’ need for pre-dawn chores, historic fears of the dark, and past misconceptions concerning comets, meteors and even eclipses.
