TD Green Streets Collaborative Planting Project Kicks Off with Arbor Day Tree Planting on Huntington Avenue

What:

An Arbor Day celebration and tree planting at the eastern end of Huntington Avenue, in Providence???s West End neighborhood. Volunteers from TD Bank and neighborhood residents will join Mayor Jorge Elorza, the City???s Forestry Division, the Providence Neighborhood Planting Program, Amos House???s A Hand Up crew, Groundwork RI???s GroundCorp team, students from Johnson & Wales & the Gilbert Stuart Middle School Garden Club, and members of the Elmwood Neighborhood Association & Friends of Bucklin Park to plant sixteen shade trees in the currently-paved center median, as well as to celebrate the City???s year-round work to strengthen our urban forest and earn our status as a Tree City USA??.

Why:

To kickoff a multi-stakeholder tree planting and maintenance project on Huntington Ave, funded by a $20k TD Green Streets grant for innovative urban & community forestry initiatives awarded to the Providence Department of Parks & Recreation. This will bring much-needed focus and increased tree canopy to a stretch of road that links several of the neighborhoods on the southwest side of the City.

When:

Friday, April 27th – 10:30am -1:30pm

10:30am – Check-in

11:00am – Planting begins

Where:

500 Huntington Ave – At the
???northwestern??? ???end of the ???a???venue, near Cranston St. The center two lanes traffic lanes will be closed, and check-in, planting, and speaking presentation will all take place in the center median area. Parking ???will be available along the north side of the Avenue (on the Huntington Ave feeder-road as well as on the side streets, Puritan St & Ninigret Ave).
