Annual Spring Community Day takes place Saturday, April 13

Worcester, MA – Heroes and villains— and the roles they have played in art and history—are the theme of the Worcester Art Museum’s annual Spring Community Day, a full day of interactive programs for all ages.

This popular annual event takes place Saturday, April 13, 2019 from 10 am to 4 pm and is free with Museum admission:  $16 for adults, $6 for children 4-17, $14 for seniors 65+, and $14 for college students with ID. Members and children under four are both free.  The Worcester Art Museum (WAM) is located at 55 Salisbury Street, Worcester.

The full schedule of Spring Community Day events and activities can be found at worcesterart.org/events

Heroes take many forms—from characters with superhuman powers to ordinary people who act heroically in extraordinary times. Whether they exist in a legend passed down for generations, on the movie screen, or in our own neighborhoods, heroes have sparked imaginations and touched hearts for centuries.

Inspired by its collection of art spanning thousands of years, WAM’s Spring Community Day explores the idea of heroes, as well as their inevitable counterparts—villains—throughout history, cultures, and galaxies.

Programs scheduled throughout the day include demonstrations by historical re-enactors; a light saber battle between Light and Dark; a guided tour of heroes and villains in works of art throughout the Museum galleries (1 p.m.); and drop-in art-making activities.

Entertainment includes familiar “heroes and villains” show and film tunes performed by pianist Paul Buono, Jr. in the Renaissance Court (1–3 p.m.).

Visitors of all ages are invited to come dressed as their favorite hero or villain and have their portrait drawn by caricature artist Don Landgren (11 a.m. – 1 p.m.). Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes at 3:30 p.m.  In addition, food will be available for purchase from a variety of local food trucks throughout the day.
