Attleboro, MA – On Saturday March 16, 2019 the Attleboro High School “Project Unite” (students from Attleboro HS, Bishop Feehan HS, and North Attleboro HS) along with the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run Program (LETR) will be hosting the Second Annual Attleboro Polar Plunge at Attleboro High School to benefit Special Olympics. Registration begins at 9:00am and the Plunge will take place at 11:00am. The funds raised will support the local Special Olympic programs and the Attleboro Area Special Olympics School Day Games. Two large pools will be set up in the parking lot of Attleboro High School and used for this unique polar plunge event.
Attleboro High School Teachers and Project Unite Coordinators, Rebecca Halsey and Sarah Faulkner, are joining with Special Olympics and Law Enforcement Torch Run staff in planning this exciting event. “We are proud to support our Special Olympics Athletes through this endeavor,” said Retired Attleboro Police Chief and Co-Director of the LETR program Rick Pierce. “We’ve already seen many individuals and companies offer their support and can’t wait to rally behind the local Plungers. We urge everyone to consider joining this fun filled and worthy cause. We are fortunate to have amazing partners like the Attleboro High School Project Unite and the Attleboro Police Department as well as other community leaders and organizations who are helping to make this years’ Polar Plunge a success”, said Pierce.
This year’s event has been dubbed the Leprechaun Leap Polar Plunge because of its proximity to Saint Patrick’s Day! Many of the students and people participating in the event will be decked out in their Leprechaun and Saint Patrick’s Day attire to jump into the refreshing ice cold water. Fundraising prizes will be awarded to the top fundraising teams in the following categories: School, Community, Corporate, Youth and Top Public Safety teams. Individuals can sign up for the Plunge and a make a donation to help fill the Pot-O’Gold for our Special Olympic Athletes at

Polar Plunge is one of LETR’s signature fundraising events. A Polar Plunge is a winter fundraising challenge whereby individuals or teams “plunge” into a cold body of water in order to raise money for Special Olympics. Each participant collects donations from family, friends and businesses in hopes of raising money for their local Special Olympics communities. Plungers are encouraged to raise $100 to plunge in the event and receive a long sleeved Polar Plunge t-shirt.
