Former Québecois War Correspondent Presents Free Talk at Museum of Work & Culture

(WOONSOCKET, R.I.) – On Friday, April 12, at 5:30 pm, the Museum of Work & Culture will welcome journalist Michèle Ouimet for a free talk on her experiences covering dangerous zones around the world.
The presentation will include reflections on her experiences abroad, including time in Algeria, Rwanda, Iran, Afghanistan, the earthquake in Haiti, the tsunami in Japan, Egypt’s political revolution, and the Syrian war, as well as how these experiences have influenced her writing and two novels.
The talk will begin at 6:00pm, and will be preceded by a reception at 5:30pm. Refreshments will be served. Please register for the talk by emailing mowc@rihs.org.
Ouimet was a journalist at La Presse, a francophone daily newspaper based in Montréal for 29 years, from 1989 to 2018. She reported on different topics from all around the world. During her time at La Presse, she primarily covered wars, disasters and dangerous zones. She is also the recipient of several awards, including six times at the Canadian Journalism competition, twice at the Judith-Jasmin competition which recognizes the best reports in Québec, and in 2008 she won the Michener Award for her report on the Taliban prisons in Afghanistan.
Ouimet has written two novels; La Promesse (The Promise) which was published in 2014, and L’heure Mauve (The Purple Hour) in 2017, as well as a story titled “Histoire d’une vie trop courte” (“Story of a Life Too Short”) which was published in 2015. She is currently writing a second story which is about her various reports around the world.
The event is organized in collaboration with The Québec Delegation in Boston and The Alliance Française of Providence.
