WHAT:
On Tuesday, May 27 at 3:15 PM in Room 135 at the Rhode Island State House, Representative Mary Ann Shallcross Smith and Senator Susan Sosnowski will join members of the National Association of Social Workers, RI Chapter, Rhode Island Kids Count, Young Voices,and The Women’s Fund of Rhode Island to advocate for passage of legislation (HB6045 and SB250) which mandates public schools (K-12) have one full-time certified social worker for every 250 students. The legislation allocates $2 million in the fiscal year 2025 budget for school districts and municipalities to hire additional social workers to fulfill the mandate. School social workers are essential to the wellbeing of children and families across our state.
