Due to Mount Hope Bridge Closing, RIPTA to Detour Routes 60 and 61x beginning Thursday, August 14 through Sunday, August 17, 2025
Providence, Rhode Island – The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will detour Route 60 (Providence/Newport) and Route 61x (Tiverton/East Bay Park & Ride) to accommodate the closing of the Mount Hope Bridge for repaving.

The detour will begin at 7pm on Thursday, August 14 and continue through Sunday, August 17, 2025. During this time, Routes 60 and 61x will not travel over the bridge. Passengers should refer to the temporary Route 60 schedule. Passengers are advised to plan accordingly as service will be drastically reduced.
Route 60 will not provide direct service between Providence and Newport while the bridge is closed. Passengers who need to travel between Providence and Newport should use Route 14 (West Bay) or Route 24L (Newport/Fall River/Providence). RIPTA will offer supplemental express trips on Route 14 after 7pm while the bridge is closed.
Route 61x Inbound will travel regular route to the Fish Road Park & Ride, Portsmouth Park & Ride and then travel express to Providence; reverse on Outbound. It will not serve Warren, Bristol or Barrington on Friday, August 15.
