GENEALOGY CLUB MEETING

SPECIAL GUEST, CINDY ELDER

Special guest, writer and researcher Cindy Elder will be joining us for this September meeting to discuss her extensive research into her husband’s ancestors as well as the research into the authentication of a 19th century manuscript narrated by a former slave,

Elder is the author of Tales of the Sea, a two-book series about her husband’s ancestors who lived on Cape Cod. Based on the letters found in a box on a porch, she researched his second great-grandfather who was a merchant sea captain and his wife who sailed with him all around the world. The letters between the two and with their families back on the Cape were only the beginning of Cindy Elder’s deep dive into genealogical research.

In addition, there was a second box of letters on that same porch which included an incredible manuscript – or narrative – by a former slave named Thomas White. This discovery took her deeper into research about this man, enlisting Roger Williams University and Brown University to help her. The BH&PS lecture about this on September 24th features three speakers: Cindy Elder, Charlotte Carrington-Farmer, and Rachel Cabral

Curious about genealogy? Or are you already hooked? Either way, come join the BH&PS Genie Club!

The Genie Club meets on the first Saturday of the month from September through June, unless a holiday bumps us to the next Saturday. Drop in, bring your questions, share your finds, and connect with fellow enthusiasts. It’s fun, and open to anyone curious about their roots—whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned researcher.

It’s free, too, although donations to support guest speakers are always welcome.
