MUSEUM OF SCIENCE BOSTON

Perception Playground

Now Open!

Explore how your brain shapes your understanding of reality. How will you react?

Do you sometimes miss things that are happening right in front of you? Have you ever seen what looks like a face in an inanimate object? Does your brain make assumptions about what is going on? Explore these questions and more as you engage your senses — even ones you might not realize you have — in the Museum’s brand-new interactive exhibition that reveals much of the science (and all of the fun!) behind the brain’s seemingly endless ability to turn reality on its head.

Take part in experiments designed to illuminate the ways your brain constructs your perception of the world around you. Whether you’re detecting the movements of another person, reacting to scents, experiencing the illusion of self-motion, or simply trying to touch your nose, you will come face-to-face with the notion that perceiving the world is not as straightforward as it seems. And it all comes down to one thing: being human.

Exhibit Halls General Admission

General admission tickets grant access to Exhibits Halls in the Museum.
Exhibit Halls hours: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

When you’re here visiting our Exhibit Halls, catch a show in our Planetarium, Omni, or 4-D Theater for a discounted rate. Discounts are offered in conjunction with Exhibit Halls admission. Add these experiences to your order after selecting admission tickets.

4-D Films require Exhibit Halls tickets and the purchase of a separate 4-D timed ticket. Please be sure to add your timed ticket during checkout.

Capacity is limited, so it’s strongly recommended that you reserve your tickets in advance. To ensure you have a safe and T-rex-cellent experience, the Museum will admit a reduced number of visitors each day. That’s more Museum for you!

By reserving tickets, visitors agree to comply with our current code of conduct.

We provide a wealth of accessibility features for all of our visitors, and we’re happy to offer a variety of accommodations. For accessibility features and more, please visit mos.org/accessibility.

Due to the construction of the new Public Science Common, some exhibits may be impacted. See our Construction Updates page for full details.
