RHODE ISLAND GOP – CHIPPENDALE CALLS OUT RI DEMOCRATS

Leader Chippendale calls out Compensation Consideration on RIHousing Board of Commissioners Meeting Agenda

MICHAEL CHIPPENDALE

State House, Providence, RI –Rhode Island House Minority Leader Michael Chippendale issues the following statement in regard to the agenda posted for the Board of Commissioners for RIHousing meeting scheduled for October 16, 2025:

Are They Serious?

The Board of Commissioners for RIHousing abandoned the very responsibilities the law entrusts to them.

Under the Quasi-Public Corporations Accountability and Transparency Act, the board is expected to provide active oversight, ensure fiscal discipline, and hold the agency accountable to the public it serves. Instead, the majority of the seats on the RIHousing Board are vacant or filled with members that have expired terms.

This same board scheduled a meeting on August 21 to vote on their organization’s compensation packages – and then couldn’t even form a quorum to do it, a clear demonstration of their dysfunction.

The meeting had to be cancelled at the last minute and rescheduled to October 16.

They are clearly more concerned about building bureaucracy vs affordable housing in RI.

How can a board that can’t meet its legal obligations under state law find time to discuss compensation packages?

Rhode Islanders deserve a housing finance agency that upholds accountability and fulfills its mission – not one that focuses on its own compensation while operating with vacant seats, weak oversight, and green-lighting costly projects that fail to meet even its own standards.

The 2025 Rhode Island House Minority (Republican) Caucus is comprised of the following elected members: Minority Leader Michael W. Chippendale, District 40 (Foster/Glocester/Coventry); Minority Whip David J. Place, District 47 (Burrillville/Glocester); Representative George Nardone, District 28 (Coventry); Representative Brian Newberry, District 48 (North Smithfield/Burrillville); Representative Robert Quattrocchi, District 41 (Scituate/Cranston); Representative Sherry Roberts, District 29 (Coventry/West Greenwich); Representative Richard Fascia, District 42 (Johnston/Cranston); Representative Marie Hopkins, District 21 (Warwick); Representative Chris Paplauskas, District 15 (Cranston); Representative Paul Santucci, District 53 (Smithfield/Glocester).
